Hephzibah Mom Jailed for Leaving Toddler in Car Alone

-

A 2-year-old boy was left alone in a locked vehicle Saturday afternoon at the Travelodge motel in Augusta.

A Hephzibah man staying at the Washington Road motel spotted the boy in the truck as he was leaving to do some shopping. When he returned 30 minutes later, the child was still alone. He watched for another 30 minutes and when no one returned to get the child, he called the cops, a Richmond County Sheriff’s report said.

When deputies arrived, they unlocked the truck and removed the boy. While getting the child, a deputy spotted a prescription bottle in an open purse. The bottle had a torn label, which contained two 1 mg Xanax tablets, the report said.

The child’s mother, Heather Leann Greene, then walked up and said the boy was hers. When asked about the drugs, she said she bought them from a man named Bam who was in Room 115, the report said.

The Department of Family and Children Services was called and the child was placed with another adult, the report said.
Greene, 31, of the 3700 block of Highway 25, Hephzibah, was arrested and charged with deprivation of a minor and possession of Alprazolam, the report said.
