Human Remains Discovered Behind Home in Rural Aiken County

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating after human remains were discovered Monday evening behind a residence in the 200 block of Woodfield Road in Aiken.

According to Aiken County Deputy Coroner Eric J. Ramey, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office received a call shortly before 8:00 p.m. from a neighbor conducting a well-being check. The neighbor found the remains behind a residence, prompting immediate law enforcement response.

The Coroner’s Office arrived on scene at approximately 8:40 p.m. and confirmed the discovery of the remains. They were subsequently collected and will be sent to Newberry Pathology for further investigation. Authorities are seeking to establish a positive identification, as well as to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office, in conjunction with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, is actively continuing the investigation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
