In Augusta, Deadly Domestic Took Place in front of Their Children, Ages 9 & 11

There are new details on the weekend murder of an Augusta woman by her children’s father.

According to arrest warrants, Christina Govea-Cervantes, 31, was stabbed to death Sunday night in front of their two sons, ages 9 and 11. (The coroner has her name listed as Cristina Govea.)

Authorities say the suspect Mario Romero-Gonzalez, 34, stabbed the victim in the abdomen around 7 p.m. Sunday, causing her death. It happened at the victim’s residence on the 3300 block of Milledgeville Road in Augusta.

Authorities have not released many details about the circumstances or motive behind the killing. The suspect has a listed address that is different than the victim. He has a listed address on the 2800 block of Glenn Hills Drive in Augusta, according to a booking sheet.

The suspect has been charged with murder, two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree and weapon possession.

Arlington Burial and Cremation of Augusta is handling funeral arrangements.
