A local mother is mourning the loss of her 14-year-old son to gun violence in Augusta as authorities have identified a 15-year-old boy as the killer.
Anthony Harrison, 14, was fatally shot Tuesday night at Cedarwood Apartments, located at 527 West Richmond Hill Road in Augusta. Coroner Mark Bowen said Anthony was from Evans.
Darryaun Tanksley, 15, is being sought for murder. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
On Facebook, mother Tequila Beasley wrote a heart-wrenching post with a previous photo of her kissing her son. The post has been shared hundreds of times with friends offering their condolences.
“There is absolutely NO UNDERSTANDING,” Beasley wrote. “I now have NOTHING TO LIVE FOR.”
A similar post by the victim’s grandmother was accompanied by over a dozen photos of Anthony growing up and playing sports.
“I watched my only grandson take his first breath and for some coward to take his life at 14,” Shantrice Harrison wrote. “My grandson had BIG DREAMS… I’m in pieces, I’m shattered and I’m broken.”
Responding deputies were called to the apartment complex at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday.
“Upon arrival, Deputies located a 14 year old juvenile subject who was shot at least one time and succumbed to their injury,” sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said in a press release.
The coroner said Harrison was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. An autopsy is scheduled, Bowen said.
Crime scene tape was draped across trees outside the apartment complex Tuesday night with orange cones marking the ground as investigators identified evidence. The sheriff’s office did not comment on a possible motive, but a sheriff’s report gives some details.
