A local man was arrested for reckless conduct for shooting at coyotes and striking a neighbor’s house in the process, according to a sheriff’s report.
Deputies were called Dec. 23 to Bath Edie Road in Hephzibah for shots fired. Victim Henry Garrett said he was in his bedroom when he heard a loud boom. After the loud boom, Garrett heard numerous shots being fired and observed stuff fall from his wall.
Deputies observed 10 or more bullet holes on the outside of the victim’s home and several holes inside the residence, the report says.
An investigator went next door and spoke with suspect James Tanner. He said he let his dogs out into the back yard and then observed several coyotes. So he retrieved his .22-caliber rifle and shot at the coyotes.
Tanner was taken to jail for reckless conduct. While the shooting took pace in Hephzibah, the suspect has a listed address in Waynesboro.
