Martinez Man Known as ‘DJ Codec’ Killed in Beech Island Crash, Found Hours After Wreck

-

A Martinez man – described as “a cornerstone of the downtown Augusta scene” – was killed Saturday after a single-vehicle wreck in Beech Island.

Paul E. Marsh Jr., 45, reportedly struck a guard rail in his pick-up truck and overturned into a drainage ditch on Sand Bar Ferry Road. He was found dead from his injuries, hours after the crash, Coroner Darryl Ables said.

The victim’s 2005 Dodge Dakota was found in the ditch along the 1400 block of Sand Bar Ferry Road. An investigation showed that Marsh was traveling east on the road when the vehicle ran off right side, struck a guard rail and overturned.

Marsh was restrained but died from blunt force trauma injuries, the coroner said in a press release.

“The Coroner’s Office along with Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation,” Ables said. “Toxicology analysis are pending.”

Marsh is already being remembered on Facebook by the name DJ Codec. “He was the DJ, always coming with all his gear no matter what.”

Arcane Arts also shared a tribute, with others calling him a DJ who “kept them going and kept them loud.”

Jason Cash said this on Facebook: “It is with deep regret that we have to announce that our beloved DJ Codec Paul Marsh has passed on. It is with heavy hearts that we bring this heart breaking news to you, he will be deeply missed and will always be loved and remembered in our hearts. Our condolences go out to the friends and family he has touched over the many years.”

Wes Tombs said, “I’m glad I got to come down to the return of Atmosphere after lockdown and see him and many of you one last time. I would’ve regretted not going after learning today’s news. RIP.”

Marsh was reportedly employed as an Information Technology Client Support Professional at Augusta University.
