Murder Mystery: Aiken Man Finds Christmas Gifts Stolen & Deputies Find Dead Man with Gun in Hand

Press release from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday morning:

“Investigators are on scene of a found deceased person after deputies responded to a break in call.

Around 4:09 am Wednesday, deputies were called to 18040 Atomic Road for a report of a residential burglary. The owner told deputies that when he came home, he noticed Christmas presents were stolen and some piled in the center of the room. When he heard footsteps outside, he saw (3) three Black men get into dark in color Buick sedan and sped away.

A (4th) fourth Black male ran towards the woods next to Atomic Road. The Aiken Bloodhound Tracking team was called to the scene and after a search of the area, an unresponsive Black male was found in the woods with what appeared to be a possible gunshot wound and a firearm in his hand. The male was pronounced deceased by Aiken County EMS.

Details surrounding this on-going investigation is limited. As this case progresses, we will release updates as they become available. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is assisting with this investigation. If anyone has any information on this case, we ask them to contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 648-6811.
