Nephew Discovers Uncle’s Body at Augusta’s Bon Air Apartments: RCSO Calls Death ‘Suspicious’

-

An Augusta man found the body of his uncle Tuesday afternoon inside his apartment at Bon Air on Walton Way, a death authorities are labeling suspicious.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a suspicious situation at 2101 Walton Way after the nephew called 911. The individual has been identified as 71-year-old Larry Laws.

Coroner Mark Bowen pronounced Laws deceased at approximately 5:45 p.m., and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine a cause of death. Deputies requested the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit due to the circumstances observed.

Photos on Laws’ social media appear to show him with a tracheostomy tube, suggesting possible ongoing medical issues, though it is unclear if this contributed to his death.

Bon Air Apartments, where the body was found, is a 202-unit complex that provides housing through the federal Section 8 assistance program.
