RCSO Investigator Resigns After DUI Arrest in Columbia County

-

A Richmond County sheriff’s investigator has resigned his job following his arrest over the weekend for drunk driving in Columbia County.

Wesley Ward, 39, was booked into the Columbia County jail just after midnight Sunday for DUI and failure to maintain lane. He was driving his county-issued vehicle when the arrest occurred, according to a press release.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s office says they were notified Saturday about the arrest.

“Investigator Ward was placed on Administrative Leave until an internal investigation could be conducted.  On April 18, 2021, Inv. Ward resigned from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office,” the RCSO press release says.

Investigator Ward was employed with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office from June 2017 starting as a Road Patrol Deputy. He was promoted to the Criminal Investigations Division in 2019 and handled everything from burglaries to homicides, according to media reports.
