Another Richmond County jailer is in trouble after his arrest for selling counterfeit pocketbooks and wallets while off duty, authorities said. Darrol Lamar Boxton, 49, was charged Thursday with Forged/Counterfeit Trademarks, Service Marks, according to a press release. That is a misdemeanor. The RCSO Criminal Investigation Division began looking into Boxton after receiving a tip that he was selling counterfeit merchandise in his off time. He was jailed on a $1,000 bond. Boxton had served in the detention center as a deputy jailer since August 2016. He has been placed on administrative leave, the release said. A mugshot was not immediately available. The arrest comes just three weeks after Deputy Jailer Michael Grate was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at another motorist on Interstate 20 in Aiken County, authorities said.Former Deputy Jailer Michael Grate In that case, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said they learned of the arrest and placed Grate on administrative leave until an Internal Affairs investigation has been completed. Grate was hired on Oct. 31, 2020. Grate not only lied about pulling the gun in a road rage incident on the interstate around rush hour Thursday, but he also was found with a loaded pistol in his Chevy Camaro despite having an expired concealed carry permit, according to a sheriff’s report. The other driver was a man from North Augusta. He told deputies that “he and Grate were involved in a rolling altercation (road rage) that ended when Grate rolled down his driver window and pointed a firearm at him,” a sheriff’s report says.
