RCSO Solves Mystery of Homeless Man’s Death After Suspect Strikes Again

Richmond County authorities have solved the mysterious and violent death of a homeless man in May.

Joshua Stokes, a man wanted for a weekend stabbing, has now been linked to the May 5 murder of James Bohannon.

On July 13, 2020, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 700 Block of E. Cedar Street in reference to an assault.  Deputies and Investigators were able to locate and arrest Joshua Stokes for Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Knife during the Commission of a Crime.

During the course of the investigation, the Criminal Investigation Division was able to connect Stokes to the Murder of James Bohannon which occurred on May 5 on the 500 block of Sibley Street.

Stokes has been charged with Murder and Possession of a Knife during the Commission of a Crime in that case.

On May 5, Bohannon was found deceased at an abandoned house on the 500 block of Sibley Street in Augusta. The body of the 62-year-old victim was found on the front porch. Authorities say the victim was found bleeding from the head and neck area. Bohannon was known to frequent the East Boundary Street area.
