Richmond County Jailer Arrested for Bringing in Contraband Into Detention Center

Press release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office:

On November 25, 2020, The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received information that contraband was being brought into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center by a Deputy Jailer and being distributed to an inmate. After conducting an investigation into the matter, Richmond County Investigators arrested Deputy Juan Scott Jr., 22, of Graniteville, SC and have charged him with the following:

(1) Count of Crossing Guard lines with Drugs (Felony)

(1) Count of Possessing By Delivery to Inmate Drugs, Weapons or Other Prohibited Items (Felony)

(1) Count of Violation of Oath by Public Officer (Felony)

Scott will be committed to The Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Deputy Scott was hired by the Sheriff’s Office on September 19 of this year and was assigned to the Detention Center as a Jailer.

The criminal investigation into the matter is ongoing. The Internal Affairs Division of the Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal review of the matter as well. Deputy Scott will be place on unpaid administrative leave until the completion of this investigation.
