Sheriff Roundtree on Fireworks Shooting: Evil Happens Everywhere

-

The Jail Report: What is your reaction to the July 4th shooting in downtown Augusta? What do you say to residents who say they will never come back in future years?

Sheriff Roundtree: “I consider any shooting in our community where innocent people are hurt or seriously injured to be tragic. However, in this case, people need to understand that the only person that was seriously injured was the individual who initiated the altercation. As to what would I say to people who would use this as an excuse to not come downtown, I would say that evil happens everywhere and to use this isolated incident as an excuse to not go anywhere would be like saying that no one should ever attend another Boston Marathon, or they will never visit New York again or that they will never go back into a church or that they will never set foot inside a night club again.”
