Skeletal Remains are Discovered in Wooded Area in Augusta

-

Richmond County authorities say a person walking on Wrightsboro Road discovered skeletal remains in the woods on Easter Sunday.

“The remains were discovered by a person passing by who stepped into the woods and found the remains,” sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said Sunday afternoon. “Our Crime Scene Unit and Investigators  are on scene. The investigation is ongoing.”

Coroner Mark Bowen said the remains were found on the 3900 block of Wrightsboro Road close to Jimmie Dyess Parkway.  The remains were found around 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

“The remains will be sent to the GBI Lab for a positive ID and to determine the cause of death,” the coroner said.
