Sleeping Babysitter Arrested After 3-Year-Old Boy is Found Wandering Streets in Martinez

-

A Martinez babysitter was arrested Tuesday after a 3-year-old boy was found wandering the streets alone, authorities said.

Stefanie Jones, 37, was found in bed sleeping at the child’s home Tuesday morning when authorities tracked down his residence on Deerwood Court, sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said. He had been wandering in the area of Palmetto Drive and Colonial Road.

“We posted his photo on social media in an attempt to identify him.  DFACs was notified as well,” Maj. Morris said in a press release. “The child’s babysitter … was in the bed sleeping and was not aware that the child was out of the residence. DFACS responded and turned the child over to a family friend since the mother is working in Detroit, Michigan.”

Jones was arrested and charged with deprivation of a minor and held on a $1,100 bond.
