Son of Georgia Rep. Lee Anderson is Arrested for DUI

-

AndersonBenjamin Lee Anderson, the son of Georgia Rep. Lee Anderson, was arrested Thursday for DUI in Columbia County.

The arrest comes as an unwelcome distraction for his father, who is about to face the voters in his upcoming race against Deomcrat Brenda Jordan for the state Senate District 24 seat.

According to authorities, 32-year-old Benjamin Anderson was stopped Thursday morning on Louisville Road at Columbia Road in Appling. He was found to be under the influence and charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and failure to stop at a stop sign. Bond was set at $4,300. At 9 p.m. Thursday, he remained in custody, according to the jail website.

The Jail Report reached out to Rep. Anderson, and he released this statement:

“There’s no excuse for my son’s dangerous and reckless behavior. We raised Ben better than that. He deserves the harsh punishment coming his way.”

Rep. AndersonRep. Anderson (right) is running to replace longtime Sen. Bill Jackson, a Republican.  While serving in the Georgia House, Rep. Anderson served on agriculture, transportation and natural resources committees.

Oddly enough, he was appointed by the governor to the state Board of Corrections, serving two years.
