Super 8 Standoff Ends in Augusta. Here’s What We Know…

-

Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputies along with the SWAT team were called Wednesday night to the Super 8 motel at 3026 Washington Road in reference to a barricaded subject.

Officers ordered all residents out of the motel until they were able to clear the scene of the subject, according to media reports.

Just after midnight Thursday, the sheriff’s office released this statement: “The standoff has ended. Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators are still on scene. This is an active investigation and no further details are available to be released at this time.”

Witnesses, however, say the suspect fired at officers multiple times. SWAT team members reportedly moved in with a “flash bang” and used a ram to knock the door down after a sniper shot two rounds through a window.

Sources say the suspect is dead and the GBI and coroner have been called in. It’s unclear whether the suspect died from suicide or from officers.
