Suspect Arrested for Mountain Lion Hoax in Aiken

-

Billy Lunsford is in custody tonight.

He’s the guy accused of making up the story of the missing mountain lion in Aiken.

Lunsford, 55, of North Augusta, has been charged with providing false info to police, a misdemeanor.

His false report of a missing mountain lion caused a major panic in Aiken on Sunday as police and state officials scrambled to locate the missing animal. Lunsford said the animal was missing from an Aiken pet store, but it turned out to be a hoax, police said.

A motive is unclear.
