Teen Paralyzed from I-20 Road-Rage Shooting Undergoes Emergency Surgery; Family Seeks Support

-

An 18-year-old Georgia woman is paralyzed following a road-rage shooting on Interstate 20 that left her with a critical spinal injury. Keira Stroup underwent emergency spinal surgery Thursday after being shot in the back during Saturday’s incident near mile marker 196. Doctors now say she has only a 10% chance of ever walking again.

Stroup was riding as a passenger in a gray Toyota Camry driven by 18-year-old Ahmad Moss on June 29 when the car came under fire on the highway. According to investigators, 17-year-old Cameron Howard opened fire from a blue Tesla driven by 17-year-old Miranda Myers, striking Stroup in the spine and Moss in the ankle.

Both Myers and Howard are facing felony charges, including two counts of aggravated assault. Howard is also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Stroup’s family says she faces a long recovery and is asking for help with medical and rehabilitation expenses. A fundraiser has been set up at GiveSendGo.

Background on the Incident

According to law enforcement reports, the Tesla carrying Myers and Howard pulled alongside Moss’s vehicle as the two vehicles traveled westbound on June 29. Witnesses say Myers began yelling at Moss before Howard allegedly pulled a Glock 23 handgun and fired at least six shots.

Stroup was hit in the spine, with the bullet exiting through her right shoulder, causing a collapsed lung and immediate paralysis. Moss sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle. Both were transported to Doctors Hospital.

The Tesla fled the scene but was later located in Grovetown. Howard initially fled on foot but was captured. Myers remained at the scene and identified Howard as the shooter, according to deputies.

Howard has a prior arrest for battery in April after allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old girl. Myers has no known criminal history.
