The Dumbest Question Ever for Sheriff Roundtree?

From last week’s Q&A column by Sheriff Richard Roundtree in The Jail Report:

Question: Why do your officers beat inmates like slaves, then lock them in the hole until they heal? They do a lot of dirty things to people behind them walls that people have no idea about.   – Antonio Tyrone Knight

Sheriff Roundtree: Mr. Knight, you sir, are an idiot. The only reason that I reply to questions like yours – and trust me you are not the only idiot to have submitted a question, so do not feel bad – is because I want everyone who knows you to realize just how ridiculous you sound. I mean, here you have the opportunity to directly interact with the sheriff of the county, and your question is why do we beat inmates like “slaves” and throw them into a hole.

Since I have been in office we have not had one lawsuit or one attorney complain that their client was beaten and thrown in a hole, not even from you. My suggestion to you and all those you feel you represent is that if you stay at a place that you feel treats you poorly, here is the punchline: DON’T GO BACK!  You’re welcome.

Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree happily answers your questions each week in the print edition of The Jail Report. Submit your question on our Facebook page under this post, or you can email them to or text it to 803-487-3224.

  1. Still didn’t answer the question. Why does the Richmond County Sheriffs Department beat people like they are less than human ( dogs and cats would not be allowed to be treated the way people are) and get away with it?

  2. A simple answer would have been good enough instead of calling someone out there name! So in your book, I would be considered an ” Idiot” because I asked you a question on a situation I’ve maybe seen, heard or went through myself? Just asking…

  3. No, Sheriff Roundtree called him an idiot because the question he asked was among one of the most idiotic things I’ve ever heard. Number 1, if he doesn’t visit Richmond County Jail every single week like a lot of the people there do. Then how does he know what does or does not go on inside of the facility. If he does, then he knows good and well that doesn’t happen. Now your not going to just put your hands on a deputy jailer and expect the jailer not to defend himself but no one is beaten like slaves and thrown in a hole. Just to reiterate the sheriff statement, this man is an idiot

  4. Most peep’s on these comments just want to be heard his ? Is what he asked this policeman he didn’t have to respond but he did when others ask questions as you all say more important questions that needs to be addressed but aren’t been answered by this policeman he rather answer questions with name calling so unprofessional at his leadership to me this policeman a idiot answer this why was you sheriff coming out of a north Augusta liquor store like at 2pm on a work day in your work suite with a bottle of liquor hummmm are you on call at this time of day for important 911calls but you want to get drunk at 2pm idiot the video is all on YouTube answer that question and to all you readers I asked the sheriff not you all so save you all lame Feedback’s they are not needed liquor store next to office depot ??????? helllllllooooo
