Two Drivers Killed in Head-on Collision on Mike Padgett Highway, Including Plant Vogtle Worker

Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision early Saturday in Augusta, including a Plant Vogtle worker.

Anibal Rosa, 39,of Dallas, Ga., and James Machino, 41, of Waynesboro, Ga., were both killed in the wreck. Rosa worked at Plant Vogtle, according to authorities.

The wreck happened early Saturday on the 4900 block of Mike Padgett Highway. Machino was traveling southbound when he crossed the center lanes and struck Rosa’s northbound vehicle head on.  Both drivers were killed and had to be extricated from the vehicles by the fire department.

The drivers were pronounced dead on the scene at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Coroner Mark Bowen said.  Autopsies will not be conducted, however toxicology will be done, he said.

Witnesses reported that at least three people were almost hit by the erratic driver. The collision happened at a time when Plant Vogtle was changing shifts, according to several employees.
