The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a single motor vehicle crash involving a fatality.

Luis Daniel Echevarria, 34, of Columbia was killed around 1 a.m. Thursday at the 34-mile marker of Interstate 20 near Batesburg, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a press release.

“The unrestrained driver of a 2005 Ford minivan was traveling eastward when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road overturned and crashed into a tree,” the coroner said. “The driver was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries.”

The Highway Patrol is continuing with the investigation. Toxicology analysis are pending, Ables said.

Echevarria is identified on Facebook as a native of Puerto Rico, a father, and a former student at Midlands Tech.
