WANTED: Armed Robbers Followed Package Shop Owner to Evans Home, Where They Robbed and Shot Him

-

These two suspects are wanted for allegedly following a liquor-store owner from Augusta to his Evans home Thursday night, where they robbed and shot him, according to the sheriff’s office.

The pictured subjects are Willie James Johnson (left) and Tywan Rogers (right). They are wanted for an armed robbery on Riverside Drive in River Chase subdivision in Evans on Thursday night, according to Columbia County authorities.

According to sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris, the suspect were customers inside the victim’s package shop on Deans Bridge Road in Augusta. They apparently followed the owner home, where they confronted him outside the house and robbed him of a book bag containing cash deposits and checks. Then they fired one shot, causing a superficial wound to the victim’s arm.

Moments later, a deputy spotted the fleeing vehicle traveling at high rate of speed. A short pursuit ended at Washington Road at Ridge Road. The men fled on foot in different directions.

Authorities set up a perimeter but did not locate them. Both were identified from store surveillance. Officers recovered the book bag as well as a weapon and cell phone.

These subjects should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has
contact, please call 911 or contact Investigator Cappa at 706-541-4024 (office) or 706-541-1044 (Investigations).
