A student at Westside High School spent the night in jail after being caught Monday with a knife on campus, according to authorities.
Sanchez Cantrelle Gantt, 17, has no bond and remained Tuesday in the Richmond County Detention Center on a felony charge for weapons in school building. He must see a judge for bond.
Gantt was found in the hallway with a “Smith and Wesson pocket knife,” which was attached to his pants, an arrest warrant says. It was discovered by a school officer around 10:20 a.m. Monday.
In an unrelated incident, school officials found three Cross Creek High students smoking marijuana inside a car during lunch in a school lot Feb. 16. A school officer searched the car and found a BB pistol and a folding knife in the vehicle, a RCBOE incident report says.
The 16-year-old male student who owned the car was charged as a juvenile with possession of marijuana and possession of weapons on school grounds. He was released to his mother after being fingerprinted and photographed.
The parents of the others involved were called and met with the principal, the report says.
