Woman Shot Dead on Augusta Street; Suspect Kills Himself in Park

-

Richmond County authorities are investigating a deadly shooting in the middle of an Augusta street on Tuesday.

A woman was shot and collapsed in the middle of the street around 1:32 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Druid Park Ave at Walton Way.

At 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, deputies located the suspect vehicle at Pendleton King Park with a man behind the wheel, sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said.

“Deputies observed the male subject was deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot to his head,” Sgt. Lee said.

Witness Schantae Dorsey Lawson went live on Facebook from the scene and described an apparent confrontation between a driver of a Chrysler 300. She showed video of a body on the sheet with a pink blanket in the middle of the road. Coroner Mark Bowen could see arriving on the scene and viewing the body of a black female.

“They said the girl pulled up on the side of her in a Chrysler 300,” Lawson says on the video. “The girl got out of her car, this white vehicle, argued back and forth with the girl who was driving the Chrysler. And they had words, and the girl in the Chrysler opened fire, shot her up. That’s what they are saying out here. I didn’t see it. This is what they are saying out here. Check on y’alls family.”

Lawson said witnesses described several gunshots.
