Young Man is Killed at 706 Lounge While Celebrating Last Night in Augusta; 3 Others Shot

-

A young man was killed and three others shot early Sunday after closing time outside at 706 Lounge in Augusta, authorities said.

No arrests had been announced.

Kevin Coatney, 20, died from his injuries and was found a mile away after he was taken to 1814 Fayetteville Drive, authorities said.

Charity Anderson, 20,  Katreona Luckie, 23, and Tremaine Johnson, 24, were also shot and rushed to local hospitals for treatment, a sheriff’s press release says.

Officers responded to the gunfire at 1:57 a.m., and arrived at the club at 2623 Deans Bridge Road. They found two of the surviving victims outside the club while the third survivor was already at the hospital.

Friends of Coatney say he was out celebrating his last night in Augusta, since he had plans to move out of the area to start a new life.

The club released this statement online: “First and foremost on behalf of Club 706, We would collectively like to send love & condolences to the family & friends of the victims of the tragic incident that occurred in Cherokee Plaza. We don’t know what led up to the incident, as this did occur after we have already closed Club 706 for the night. However, the safety of all our patrons is our top priority. Moving forward, we will have better protocols in place to help prevent this sort from happening.”

Reaction to another murder in Augusta was quick.

Dina Scott said, “We gotta start spreading more love it’s enough hate as it is. The City a full War Zone.”
