Augusta Dealers Caught with Over 10 Pounds in Public Housing Unit

-

Two Augusta men were caught Friday with several pounds of marijuana, cocaine and meth inside a residence at Oak Pointe Apartments, a public housing unit.

Convicted felon Corey Washington jumped out a back window that evening when officers showed up on Bulla Street East. He was caught after a brief foot chase. Michael Underwood was captured in the apartment.

A search turned up over 7.5 pounds of marijuana, nearly two pounds of meth and nearly two pounds of cocaine, authorities said. The drugs were packaged, with much of the marijuana in vacuumed-sealed bags in a closet. That’s where officers also found a 9mm pistol. Digital scales and a large stack of money was found in a grocery bag in cabinet.

Washington, 35, is a convicted felon with several stints in Georgia prisons for drug, theft and weapons offenses. He was last released in February 2021 after serving a year in prison for dealing drugs, but he was still on probation through 2025, according to online prison records.

Underwood, 45, is also a felon with a long criminal record of dealing drugs with time in prison, according to online records.

According to warrants, both men were charged with trafficking meth, trafficking cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Washington was also charged with weapon possession and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Neither man lived at the apartment, but Washington has a listed address on the same street, in the same public housing complex.

Underwood has a listed address on the 200 block of Walker Street in Augusta.

Both men remained in jail Monday under no bond.
