Augusta Father Dies in Late-Night Shooting

-

An Augusta father was fatally shot just after midnight Wednesday at East Augusta Commons.

Wonya Malik Ryan, 28, was shot at least one time at the townhomes at 420 East Boundary Street in Augusta. He was rushed to Wellstar MCH Heath, where he was pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m. Wednesday, according to Coroner Mark Bowen.

Richmond County authorities have identified a suspect in the killing, but the suspect is not in custody. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has not released any details on the shooting or a possible motive. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Ryan was the father of a 2-year-old boy, according to his Facebook page. He is being remembered as an awesome dad who worked hard to make sure he took care of his son.

The coroner said Ryan lived on Monte Carlo Drive in Augusta, which is about 12 miles from where he was killed.
