Augusta Felon Arrested in North Leg Road Murder; He Had Pending Charges

-

A convicted felon from Augusta has been charged in Friday’s shooting death of a driver on North Leg Road.

Robert Dubose, 39, of Augusta, was arrested Saturday on the 3400 block of Wrightsboro Road without incident. Dubose will be charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, a press release says.

Victim Ramon “Dre” Bryant Jr.

Around 4 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to the area of North Leg Road at Wrightsboro Road in reference to shots being fired and one person being shot. Ramon Bryant Jr., 26, of Augusta, was found lifeless in his vehicle with at least one gunshot wound and unresponsive. Bryant was pronounced deceased at the scene by Richmond County Coroner’s Office at 4:25pm.

Dubose was just arrested on Monday for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. That is the mugshot above. At the time, jail officials listed him as homeless.

The suspect also has felony drug charges that have lingered in the court for over a year without resolution. And a “terroristic threats” arrest from 2018 was dismissed two months ago by prosecutors after lingering in the courts without resolution for over two years.

You want to know how to prevent murder? Perhaps felons who are charged with new crimes should be prosecuted in a timely fashion and held accountable before they kill someone. Just a thought.
