Augusta Man Arrested in Young Woman’s Hit & Run Death

-

An Augusta man has been captured in this week’s hit & run death of a woman who was walking along Mike Padgett Highway when she was struck.

Johnathan Darnel Brown, 34, has been charged in the death of 21-year-old Zyionna Fields. He is charged with homicide by vehicle and felony leaving the scene of an accident.

The victim was struck around 2 a.m. Wednesday while walking along the 3300 block of Mike Padgett Highway by a driver who just kept going and left the woman to die, authorities said.

“The vehicle that fled the scene of the accident was identified with the use of our agency’s Flock cameras,” sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said.

Flock cameras are used by law enforcement to capture license plate and vehicle characteristics to help solve crimes. The cameras capture still images of vehicles, and only capture license plates and vehicle characteristics.

On Thursday morning, the suspect’s vehicle, a 1997 Ford F150, was located off Brown Rd and the driver was identified and arrested.
