Augusta Man Killed After Losing Control of Jeep & Striking Tree

-

An Augusta man died Monday morning after losing control of his SUV and striking a tree on the side of Clark Road, authorities said.

Michael Ray Blansett, 28, of Simpkins Lane, lost control of a 2004 Jeep Liberty while driving south on the 1500 block of Clark Road. He crossed the northbound lane and struck a tree, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:50 a.m. Monday, the coroner said.

The wreck cause authorities to temporarily shut down Clarke Road from Hephzibah McBean Road and just east of the crash scene on Clarke Road.
