Augusta Teen Murder Suspect Apprehended in Myrtle Beach

-

An Augusta teen wanted in the shooting death of a younger teen over the summer has been captured in Myrtle Beach.

Dontavious Shareef Smith, 17, was apprehended Friday at the South Carolina beach town by the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Tack Force. He was wanted for murder in the July 12 shooting death of 15-year-old Jabari Webb.

Webb was shot at 518 Aiken St. in Augusta and died at Augusta University Medical Center. The shooting happened about four miles from where the teen lived on the 1700 block of Walker Street in Augusta. A second male victim was shot during the incident, and he was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Southeastern U.S. Marshal’s Task Force for their efforts in locating and arresting Dontavious Smith,” sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said in a press release.

A mugshot of Smith was not released.
