Augusta University Looks Into Bomb Threat in Restroom With ‘Stop Bullying Me!’ Message

-

Augusta University officials have announced no arrest in last week’s bomb threat written in a women’s restroom of the College of Science and Math building.

Officers of the Augusta University Police Department were dispatched at 8:44 a.m. June 7 following a report of a threatening note found in the women’s restroom on the second floor. The handwritten message read “@ 1030am fire will consume this place stop bullying me! bomb!”.

The message raised immediate concerns about the safety of the building. Despite efforts to locate any potential threat, no suspicious items were found during a sweep of the third and fourth floors. The dean of the College of Science and Math, John Sutherland, declined evacuation of the building, citing his belief that legitimate threats are rarely announced in advance.

Investigators subsequently interviewed faculty and students to gather more information. The staff member who initially reported the threat said a student had discovered the note and brought it to the attention of Dean Sutherland.

A professor provided handwriting samples from his students for comparison with the note, but no conclusive matches were identified. Further inquiries with faculty members revealed no specific grievances or signs of distress among students, with the exception of one student who had shown emotional distress earlier in the week unrelated to academic concerns.

Additionally, the investigation included a sweep of the building by Richmond County Sheriff’s Office personnel and K9 units, which yielded no evidence of explosive materials. The building was subsequently deemed safe for normal activities to resume.
