Body Found in Water Near Boat Ramp in Aiken County

-

Aiken County authorities are investigating the death of a local man who was found in the water Tuesday afternoon near a boat ramp.

Devon Tricoche, 30, of Aiken, was found in the Edisto River with at least one gunshot wound to the body. The victim was found this afternoon at 1:43 p.m. at the South Fork Edisto River boat landing on New Holland Road, Coroner Darryl Ables said.

The discovery at the South Fork Edisto Boat Landing was made after a fisherman called 911 to report finding the body near the boat ramp, which sits along the 1000 block of New Holland Road in Aiken.

The sheriff’s office is investigating it as a “suspicious death,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is assisting the sheriff’s office with this investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at 803-648-6811. Tipsters can also share information by visiting www.aikencountysheriff.net

The South Fork of the Edisto begins as a small stream in Johnston, according to gopaddlesc.com. It flows southeast for 105 miles, where it meets the North Fork near Branchville to form the Edisto River. Paddling opportunities begin where New Holland Road crosses the river northeast of Aiken, about 83 miles upstream of the confluence with the North Fork. Aiken State Park is 10 miles downstream and has a small paddling trail through the park, the website says.
