Evans Mom Arrested After Son Opens Car Door & Gets Run Over

-

The 4-year-old Evans boy who was run over by his mother’s SUV last week was unbelted before he opened the door on Interstate 20 in Grovetown, authorities said.

Jamey Dakai Kadhim, 38, of Tulip Drive, Evans, was charged Thursday with reckless conduct and no child safety restraint. She has been released on bond.

The accident happened last Monday afternoon (March 11) on the I-20 East ramp near Lewiston Road. Her son, Noah, was seated in the left rear of the 2021 Toyota Highlander without a child safety seat or seat belt, allowing the child to roam the vehicle freely, a sheriff’s report says.

“Noah opened the left rear door while the vehicle was moving and fell out on to the roadway after striking the left rear tire of the vehicle,” the report says. “This caused serious injury to Noah.”

The child was rushed to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Children’s Hospital of Augusta, authorities said. An updated condition was not released this week.

The incident happened on the new diverging diamond that opened this month.
