Report: ARC Student Claims Boy Raped Her Under School Stairwell

-

A female student at the Academy of Richmond County said she was raped by a classmate under a stairwell at the school this month.

From a room at Doctors Hospital, the girl told RCSO Deputy Daniel Gunn on May 3 that she and a male classmate had oral intercourse during 6th period. She said the boy told her he wanted to finish, and he told her to meet him “under the stairs,” according to a sheriff’s report released this week.

The girl said she met the classmate, and he began to get aggressive, saying that he wanted to finish.

“She told (him) no, and he continued anyway, penetrating her’,” the report says. “(He) told her that he did not want to finish inside of her.”

The female student ended up at the hospital with her mother. She described the classmate as 15 or 16 years of age. The suspect’s name and the victim’s age are redacted in the report, and there is no indication about whether the suspect was arrested.

ARC parents were informed of the incident in a May 5 letter from Principal Jason Medlin:

“In an effort to keep you informed, I wanted to make you aware of an allegation reported to the ARC administration by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday evening [May 3], a student alleged that they were sexually assaulted in our school. The Richmond County School System Police and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a joint investigation based on the student’s allegations. The findings from the investigation will be addressed following applicable laws and the Code of Student Conduct and Discipline.”

The sheriff’s report with the specific allegations of the May 3 incident was released for the first time this week. Sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee had previously instructed media to seek information from the Board of Education, saying the BOE “handles all school related incidents.” But the BOE released a two-sentence narrative that included a RCSO case number, since it was a RCSO deputy who talked to the girl at the hospital. The sheriff’s office released their longer report this week when asked for the specific case number.
