2 Pedestrians Killed in Unrelated Hit & Run Accidents on Saturday

-

The identities of two Augusta pedestrians who were killed Saturday in unrelated hit & run accidents have been released.

Both were killed within a mile of their homes.

Joni Mitchell, 28, was riding a bicycle Saturday when she was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Lumpkin Road at Fleming Drive. The vehicle that struck Mitchell left the scene. Mitchell, who lived less than a mile away on Overlook Road, was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:24 p.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said. A Facebook page identified her as the CEO of Hearty Homes, a cleaning and restoration business.

The second pedestrian victim was walking on the 3100 block of Richmond Hill Road on Saturday evening when he was struck by a vehicle traveling south. Broderick Parker, 39, was just two blocks from home on Richmond Hill Road when he was struck.

The driver who hit Parker abandoned the vehicle and fled. Parker was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:06 p.m., Bowen said.

The coroner said there is no connection between the two incidents. No suspect information or arrests have been announced.
