3 Augusta Men Linked to Murder of 15-Year-Old Boy Outside Gas Station

-

Three Augusta suspects have been linked to Thursday’s shooting death of a 15-year-old boy outside a convenience store.

Derrick Lyons Jr., 32, Ike Romeo Lang, 18, and Dexter Romeo White, 41, are all facing charges in the death of the victim, Jordan Gaynor of Augusta. Only Lyons is in custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Gaynor was shot Thursday afternoon while standing next to two friends outside the Get-N-Go at 2350 Windsor Spring Road. The suspects fired multiple shots, missed his friends but striking Gaynor in the upper body and killing him.

Authorities say video surveillance captured one of the suspects walking down Rosier Road near Salem Arms Apartments dressed in all black. The suspect then fires multiple shots in the direction of Gaynor before running toward Salem Arms and getting into a gold Sedan.

The 2011 Toyota Camry was later tracked to a location on Wrightsboro Road and was registered to Lyons. He was picked up at work and interviewed, where he described riding around with the other two suspects. But he denied the shooting.

Each suspect is facing charges of murder, weapon possession and two counts of aggravated assaults since the gunfire was near the victim’s friends.

Criminal backgrounds. Lyons was charged in 2020 with dealing marijuana and Ecstasy as well as weapon possession, but prosecutors dropped the weapons offense and pleaded the drugs charges down to possession. Lyons got probation.

A year ago, Lang was 17 years old when he was charged with possession of a pistol by someone under 18 as well as theft by receiving stolen property. He bonded out and those charges remains pending.

White was previously convicted of statutory rape when he was 18 and given seven years of probation in Richmond County.
