Aiken Man Accused of Shooting Wife in Face

-

An Aiken County man is currently in custody, accused of shooting his wife in the face in a horrific way that left her jaw hanging from her face.

Law enforcement officers from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to a residence late Monday on Sandra Lane in Salley following reports of a shooting incident.

Responding deputies encountered 41-year-old Christopher Gleaton outside the residence, seeking assistance for his injured wife. Authorities entered the home where they discovered the victim, Gleaton’s wife, in a dire condition.

Her left jaw was visibly damaged, with blood splattered throughout the premises. In an effort to control the bleeding, officers provided the victim with a shirt to cover “what was left of her jaw,” a report says.

Emergency medical services rushed the victim to the hospital for medical attention. As of now, the extent of her injuries and current condition remain undisclosed.

Gleaton has been charged with attempted murder and weapon possession. He is currently held at the Aiken County Detention Center pending legal proceedings.
