An Aiken man was identified as the person whose body was found by a bicyclist Monday on a road in Beech Island.
Deandre T. Gaiters, 27, was shot at least once, according to Coroner Darryl Ables.
The murder investigation was initiated on Monday morning after a man on a bicycle discovered the body of a male was on the side of the road at 124 Spann Hammond Road in Beech Island. The biker called police from his phone around 8 a.m. Monday and let emergency dispatchers know he had found a person lying in the road.
“The victim had sustained at least one gunshot wound to the body and was pronounced dead on the scene,” Ables said.
The victim will be autopsied Tuesday in Newberry. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office along with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office are continuing with the investigation.
