Aiken Police Investigate Halloween Homicide

Aiken police are investigating a Halloween homicide after a shooting left a man dead in the front yard of an abandoned home.

Aiken Public Safety officers responded at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday to a shooting near the intersection of Sumter Street and Sundy Avenue.

“Officers located a black male lying beside the roadway,” ADPS Lt. Jennifer Hayes said in a press release. “Lifesaving measures were attempted by arriving officers. EMS arrived and continued lifesaving measures but subsequently pronounced the victim deceased.”

The coroner identified the man as 46-year-old Kenneth Jones.

“Mr. Jones was pronounced deceased on scene from multiple gunshot wounds and will be autopsied Thursday afternoon in Newberry,” Coroner Darryl Ables said in a press release.

The City of Aiken Department of Public Safety is being assisted by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office. No suspects or motive were released.
