Authorities say a 13-year-old Augusta boy is the suspected gunman who fatally shot a man Sunday at Olmstead Homes

The juvenile, who turned 14 on Monday, is facing charges of murder and aggravated assault in a double shooting that killed 22-year-old Jaleen Xavier Sumpter and injured a 16-year-old girl. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has not released his name or photo.

On Monday, authorities arrested 19-year-old Tydasia Hope for murder and aggravated assault. She is accused of being with the juvenile suspect when he shot the two victims. Hope is being held without bond at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Richmond County authorities responded to the distress call at 8:05 p.m. Sunday on the 2100 Block of C Street. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Sumpter had been shot in his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim, 16-year-old Tremya Blocker, was shot in the leg and was taken to Wellstar MCG Health in stable condition.

Video of the unfolding scene was posted live on Facebook after the shootings with images of officers and paramedics arriving and neighbors reacting to the gun violence in shock.

None of the victims or suspects lived on C Street.
