Augusta Burglar Held at Gunpoint by Business Owner’s Son-in-Law

-

The son-in-law of an Augusta business owner held a burglar at gunpoint at the family business last week, authorities said.

Dustin Devore, 33, of Augusta, was caught damaging property at 5 a.m. March 10 at Import Services on the 3800 block of Wrightsboro Road, a sheriff’s report says.

Business owner William Robertson told deputies that he got an alert from one of his trail cameras and watched a video showing the suspect walking around his property where he keeps vehicle parts. He called his son-in-law, Jonathan Keough, to meet him at the property.

Once there, Keough chased the suspect and fired a shotgun away from him. Devore heard the gunfire and dropped to the ground, staying there until officers arrived, the report says.

Deputies discovered damage to windows. Plus, they found Devore with keys stolen from the property.

Devore, of Hiawassee Road, Augusta, was charged with burglary. He is a felon with previous convictions for DUI, weapon possession, possession of a controlled substance and possessing meth and marijuana. A 2019 charge for domestic violence remains pending.
