Augusta Man Killed After Being Ejected in Gordon Highway Wreck

-

An Augusta man died early Thursday after wrecking at a local intersection.

The accident occurred just before 2 a.m. Thursday on Gordon Highway and Highland Avenue, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

Jeremy Simpkins, 34, of Darlington Drive, was ejected from his vehicle after striking another vehicle at the intersection, the coroner said.

Simpkins was transported to Augusta University Medical Center by Gold Cross EMS where he was pronounced dead at 4:35 a.m., Bowen said. It doesn’t appear he was wearing a seat belt since he was ejected, the coroner said.

A Facebook page for Simpkins says he is a resident of Edgefield, but the page had not been updated since last summer.
