Augusta Murder Suspect Captured in 2022 Olmstead Homes Killing

-

An Augusta suspect sought in a 2022 killing has been captured while another one remains on the loose.

Lawrence Stephens, who turned 21 last week, was captured Wednesday and booked into the jail on a grand jury arrest warrant for malice murder and felony murder for a shooting death that happened on Oct. 15, 2022.

He is among five suspects accused in the fatal shooting of Kyan Bowie on Oct. 15, 2022, along B Street in Olmstead Homes. The Hephzibah victim died shortly after someone in a private vehicle rushed him to Augusta University Medical Center.

At least one defendant told authorities that the victim was not the intended target and was accidentally shot while one of them was firing a gun near Olmstead Homes.

Jamari Williams, 20, is still being sought in the murder. Until Wednesday, both he and Stephens had remained on the loose since the sheriff’s office last released wanted posters for them a year ago.

Already charged in the killings are Jaquez Davis, 22, Evyn O’Conner, 20, and Diriuss Redd Jr., 18. They are all awaiting trial.

Any information concerning the whereabouts of Jamari Williams, please contact Inv. Walter McNeil or any Violent Crimes Investigator at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1020 or (706) 821-1080.
