Augusta Teen Jailed for Murder in Gunfight That Killed His Friend

-

An Augusta teen was arrested Saturday on a murder charge for his participation in a gunfight that got his friend killed in November.

Frashawn Sankoh, 18, had gone to Glenn Hills Drive in November with 20-year-old Isaiah McKnight of Hephzibah. The pair were armed and shot at two other individuals, who returned fire and killed McKnight, according to authorities.

Sheriff’s investigators identified Sankoh and the victim as the ones who started the gunfight. Another teen – 19-year-old Rashaun McAllister – was identified as the getaway driver.

It appears the person who shot and killed McKnight was never charged in a possible case of self-defense. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office does not discuss homicide cases or answer questions about possible motives.

But jail records show that Sankoh was arrested Saturday for murder and aggravated assault. McAllister is still being sought on the same charges, however no wanted flyer or photo has been released on the murder suspect.

At the time of the murder, authorities said McKnight was shot and died later at Wellstar MCG Health. A sheriff’s report says deputies initially responded around 1 p.m. on Nov. 5 to the 3600 block of Goldfinch Drive in reference to a gunshot victim, where they found McKnight. It was later discovered that the original shooting occurred at Claudia Drive and Glenn Hills Drive. Sankoh lives on Claudia Drive, according to booking records.

Ironically, Sankoh and McAllister were spotted together a week ago in Columbia County, where they were identified during an investigation into a car break-in on Applecross Drive in Martinez. The pair denied being inside of the victim’s vehicle, according to a CCSO report.
