Augusta Woman Fatally Stabs Roommate, Three Months After He Slammed Her Head Into Truck

-

An Augusta woman was charged Monday night with fatally stabbing her male roommate at their home on Greene Street.

Sheila Downs, 49, is accused of stabbing John Timothy Hoard with a kitchen knife around 10 p.m. Monday at 1942 Greene Street, authorities say. He was 52, according to the coroner.

The death came just three months after Hoard was arrested for allegedly slamming Downs head against a parked pick-up truck outside their home.

That Aug. 11 incident caused her significant bleeding to her head, and led to a battery charged against Hoard. He went to court in September and pled guilty and got 12 months of probation and fines.

After deputies were called to a domestic incident Monday night between the same pair, officers found Hoard with stab wounds. Paramedics rushed him to Augusta University Medical Center, where he died soon after from his injuries.

Downs has been charged with murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. She has a previous arrest from years ago for cocaine and marijuana possession, but the charges were later dismissed. Downs also has a series of arrests over a decade old for traffic charges, including a hit & run and fleeing police that got her some jail time.
