Cops: Shooting at Clearwater Home Might be Self-Inflicted; Autopsy on Monday

-

A Belvedere man died Friday night after a shooting at a Clearwater home that was self-inflicted, sheriff’s officials said.

Marquist FullerMarquist Fuller, 20 (pictured), was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m. Friday night at the Augusta University Medical Center.

The shooting made news all day Friday after reports that a man was shot at 1 p.m. at a residence in Clearwater. News outlets later reported that the man was in a car with several people, but authorities say those people were trying to take Fuller to the hospital after the self-inflicting gunshot wound.

Coroner Tim Carlton said he is still working to confirm the cause of death.

“Mr. Fuller died from a gun shot wound to the head,” Carlton said in a press release. “The Coroner’s Office is in the process of gathering information in an effort to determine manner of death. Autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning in Newberry.”

The statement from the sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah:

“We receive the 911 call about 1:02 pm. We responded. Deputies arrived on scene. They found the victim in a vehicle at the end of the driveway with several other individuals. The victim was transported to an area hospital for emergency treatment for an apparent gun shot wound. This incident did occur at 244 Parker Dr. in Clearwater.  Our preliminary investigation shows that this shooting incident was self-inflicted, as indicated by witnesses that were on scene. However we are still investigating this incident.”

Friends of Fuller are remembering him on Facebook and other social media sites.

“You ain’t from north Augusta if you didn’t know Marquist Fuller,” said Deja Cooper. “Boy we had memories growing up. God got you in his hands ?? you got this.”
