An Evans man is facing serious domestic violence charges after allegedly punching his wife and dragging her by the hair as their kids watched.
Wael Rashad El-Sayed, 51, of Maidstone Court, found an expensive door lock was broken Tuesday morning in the family’s home and lost control, according to a sheriff’s report. His wife said he was throwing and breaking items throughout the first floor, including statues, artifacts and decorations.
“She tried to calm him down while in the pool area but was punched in the face,” the report says. “He grabbed her by the hair and dragged her throughout the property. She also mentioned him throwing a cup of coffee at her during the rage.”
Shortly after the assault, El-Sayed left the residence to go to his other home, the report says. So responding deputies talked to the wife and their children, a 10-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl. The girl said she witnessed her father punch their mother, then drag her by the hair throughout the five-bedroom house. The wife suffered a broken nail along with scrapes and bruises along her right forearm.
El-Sayed also allegedly called his daughter a “b**ch” and took her debit card, the report says.
Reached by phone, El-Sayed told the deputy that he was driving to Atlanta. He admitted breaking things in his rage over the broken lock, but denied hitting his wife.
“He claimed (she) was bringing up details about a divorce which did not help the situation,” the report says. “He then stated all he did was push her.”
The officer told El-Sayed he had obtained warrants against him for battery–family violence and cruelty to children. The suspect agreed to turn himself in, which he did on Wednesday before he was released on bond.
A sheriff’s report lists the suspect as manager of the Evans Kia.
