He Killed a Graniteville Couple & Lost a Gunfight with Officers, Cops Say. Now, He’s in Jail!

-

The suspect in the murder of a Graniteville couple who was shot by officers was released today from a hospital and held at the Richmond County Jail.

Peter Finch faces extradition to Aiken County. He is accused in the deaths of 43-year-old Lacy Boyd and her 51-year-old boyfriend, whose name has not been released.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office released these details Tuesday night on the killings and gunfight:

“On September 12, 2020, investigators began an investigation into the death of a Graniteville couple at 43 Louise Street. When responding deputies arrived on scene, they found the couple unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds. The couple was later confirmed to be deceased by Aiken County EMS and First Responders. Later in this investigation, witnesses assisted in identifying the murder suspect as Pete Finch (49 yo) who was last seen driving a Gray in color Ford F350.

“Later in the evening around 8:57 pm, a deputy spotted a truck matching the description given by investigators on East Pine Log Road near Whiskey Road. When the deputy signaled the vehicle to stop, using his emergency lights, the suspect fled. The vehicle pursuit ended when the suspect got his truck stuck on the shoulder of the road at East Pine Log Road and Northwood Road.

“The suspect, Finch, fired multiple rounds, from a rifle, at deputy that spotted him and also at other deputies, Aiken Department of Public Safety Officers and SC Highway Patrol Troopers as they arrived on scene. Deputies and Aiken PSO’s returned fire, striking Finch at least two times. Finch was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Moments ago, Finch was released from the hospital and taken to the Richmond County Detention Center where he is being held pending extradition for 2 counts of Murder. Other charges are forthcoming.

“The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the officer involved shooting.”
